Well, considering there are bonsai that are 1" tall, and that there are some
that are 5' tall, I guess yours fall right in the middle zone ;-)

There is no "right" size for bonsai, it all depends on the tree you have,
and what you like to grow.

Re: [IBC] Height

It depends how big you want them to be, what species you are growing,
what sort of plant you are starting with, how long you want them to be
in training before you bonsai them, what sort of pots you have or can
afford and probably a multitude of other factors.

Get a good book and read up on the traditional classification sizes. You
can probably also find them on the web with a quick Google.

With time you'll develop a preference. I certainly have, although my trees range
in height (not counting the pot) from 4" up to over 3 feet. I tend to like the big
ones with fat trunks. Many of my trees in development will be in the 2.5-3 foot
range.

One factor to take into account is leaf size. If you have a tree that has leaves
that don't reduce in size, a bigger tree will be better.

Not to be a smarty pants, but you keep your tree as tall as it
needs to be to look its best.
