[IBC] WD40

A member of the gardens Listserv I'm on sprays scale with WD-40.
He uses it on all sorts of plants. He says results are almost
immediate.

Anyone want to try it on a small tree? And report back?

I don't have any scale at the moment or I certainly would
volunteer. ;-)

Sounds logical, Jim. Any oil which is not toxic would do the same thing -
smother the varmints!

Friends:

Would you spray your bonsai with Kerosine? WD40 is approximately 80% kerosine. The rest is tallow oil and a light grade lubricating oil. It may also contain graphite.

My suggestion is that you consider using over-the-counter sprays that target your specific problem.

Re: [IBC] Warning: WD40

Well, I certainly have to agree with Mike. I couldn't believe I was hearing
people suggesting it for a bug killer to spray on your trees. I wonder how
many ran out and sprayed trees right after they read that!!
.. Heck, I sometimes will spray a weed with it to kill it when I'm out of
roundup!
Use it for what it is best for....removing tarr specks from the bottom of
your car paint. :>)

Re: [IBC] Warning: WD40

I agree it's a good idea to use the approved products. However, people have been spraying trees and plants with kerosene for more than a century. If you run out and buy a dormant oil, chances are good that's what you're getting a refined petroleum distillate of one kind or another.
