[IBC] Turface MVP
Hello everyone, I am back with another Turface question. A couple weeks ago I thought that I had solved my Turface problem. I finally found a nearby store that could get it for me at a very reasonable price, $12.99/50 lbs. When the guy at the store bro
ught it up on his computer it said MVP TURFACE so I ordered a couple bags. I just picked it up and it is not MVP Turface and it is not from Profile. Instead it is a product very similiar called Profield Field Conditioner, made by a company called Profie ld. The bag is green and white and says calcined clay soil modifier on it. Are any of you familiar with this product. If anything the only difference may be that this is finer. Thanks..........................................Ri ck ************************************************** ****************************** ++++Sponsored, in part, by Chris Cochrane++++ ************************************************** ****************************** >>-->> The IBC HOME PAGE & FAQ: http://www.internetbonsaiclub.org/ <<--<< +++++ Questions? Are any of you familiar with this product. If anything the only difference may be that this is finer. =========== There are several calcined clay products. Their primary purpose is to provide surface for baseball infields, some kinds of tennis courts, track and field grounds, playgrounds, etc. They've got what their makers consider a minor purpose -- as an agricultural soil amendment in problem soils -- promoting drainage and/or water-holding. TerraGreen, Mule Mix, Turface, (and probably others whose names I've forgotten are some of the brand names. Most are mined and baked down in my neck of the woods -- TerraGreen just a few miles north of me, though there are no dealers within 100 miles (!). I'd have to buy it by the dump-truck load from the factory. They're essentially identical. All are fine for bonsai. Most have largest particle size of 3/16 to 1/8 inch, with about 1/3 of it smaller than that (and good for mame and small shohin trees). All need sifting to at least remove (by winnowing) the dust, which, if included in potting soil, eventually washes away but stains everything it touches. I often do no more than merely winnowing away the dust (though I usually screen a few quarts of small grains for my mame). Re: [IBC] Turface MVP
Rick:
The Turface MVP is designed to minimize particle disintegration. In bonsai culture, this can mean the difference between developing a fibrous root system or destroying one from too many "fines" over time. I cannot address your question about the other product. Re: [IBC] Turface MVP
Hello Michael,
As you may recall, I am a novice and your comment sounds quite interesting so, could you give more details about it? Thanx in advance.
