[IBC] SLUGS!

I'm looking for a pet friendly solution to a fairly severe infestation of
slugs. I soon will be moving to a new house which has quite a large garden
which I will convert part of into a bonsai garden, however the place is
riddled with slugs! Any ideas will be welcome.

Regards,

beer in little saucers... slugs lov'em. Pets don't really go for it
(though an old dog of mine was known to empty bottles...) Easy to pet proof
by putting something over it though.

Re: [IBC] SLUGS!

You can also lay a board -- say 8" x 10" x 1" -- on the
ground/table, etc. The slugs will tend to gather in the moisture
that stays underneath after you water, especially in the heat of
the day, and you can collect them and have your way with them.

There's nothing like waking up to a mailbox filled with mail titled "SLUGS!".

The answer seems pretty obvious: collect up the best slugs and keep them as pets.

Nina, helpful as always.

Re: [IBC] SLUGS!

Get ducks or geese. They will eat the slugs. The
geese will also guard the bonsai. make sure they have
enoght other green stuff to eat.

Leslies:

Open cans of beer with a can opener and insert them into the ground such that they are flush with the surface or turf. Slugs, apparently, like to indulge to the point of self- destruction.

Beer works great. The idea is they're attracted to the smell, and
slither in, only to drown unable to get out again. It's not a very
pretty thing, a pint of beer, hot from the sun, with a dozen dead slugs
in it, but it works. One thing to do, if you have rain in the season
where you are, is to put a little piece of wood or something propped up
on one side over the top of the cup or whatever holding the beer so rain
doesn't dilute it.

Another great thing is COPPER. Slugs will not slither over copper. They
sell copper slug tape, but a cheaper way to go is to by some length of
copper wire from the hardware store, bigger gauge the better, and
encircle things you want to protect with it.
