new bonsai site
From time to time I like to search the internet for new bonsai sites and
came across this one. http://www.crashbonsai.com/ . I know people have thought of new and inventive ways of practicing bonsai, but I've never seen anything like this in the world of bonsai. |

Re: [IBC] new bonsai site
This site isn't quite new, saw it about a year ago. Interesting stuff.

<< From time to time I like to search the internet for new bonsai sites and

Art has long been used to express the dark side of human nature, but I would hope they would leave bonsai alone. I don't mind a little irony, but I prefer my bonsai upbeat. I know people have > thought of new and inventive ways of practicing bonsai, but I've never > seen anything like this in the world of bonsai. > Funny thing... Here in St. Louis at the convention, I didn't see one car crashed into a tree. I'm not much of an old hand at this whole convention thing, but this is a good one as far as I'm concerned. Met a few people whose work I've only seen on the printed page and watched some transform what looks like ordinary material into good stuff. Walked around some truly splendid trees (and some not so splendid, but even a bad tree is pretty good). Spent way too much for plants, pots and tools, but what the hell, therapy is worth what you pay for it... <g> Not much IBC presence here and I find that disappointing. And, Muphy's Law being what it is, I've come down with a cold and feel crummy. Won't stop me from watching demos though. I hear that buying more pots will generally improve respiratory distress. I'm going to test that theory later today. I figure it'll probablt take a half dozen pots, at least. Take them with meals and call me in the morning... Jim-
I totally agree with you- and your grandson- This site does definitely "suck"- and has anyone checked out the prices?! Oy!- and for something that looked like my grandsons were driving their matchbox or hot wheels cars through my trees! Unreal what some people will do- and even more unreal what some people will buy! [IBC] Fw: [IBC] new bonsai site

I think the site sucks (to use >>my 13-year-old grandson's oh-so-eloquent phrasing). >> >> Jim Lewis ------------------------ Calmly contemplating ![]() There is no reason to call it "bonsai" if the history and metaphor of bonsai has been disconnected from its beginning. It needs a new title- one that expresses the artist's intention. But - the artist may be making money and having fun with it. That is as far as some goals are set. Makes one appreciate and realize all the more those traditional more transcending goals. The site has been around for awhile; it does remind us of our different appreciation so it is worth something. Like Iris suggests - a little irony is acceptable; this seems to teeter toward, "Buy me, I am a kick!" Peter Aradi, Reiner Goebel, and Allan Walker (at least) should be wandering around somewhere -- tho Allan's probably stuck in meetings. Check the bar at 5 p.m. There were a number who said they'd be there. Hope you took/are taking lots of pictures. I agree with everyone one that this site "sucks". I was not trying to raise
hostility, I just wanted to share with everyone the 'crap' that some people make, buy, and call art. Remember the web site with trees a few years ago that were put into settings that were decidedly not traditional. I seem to recall one that had barbed wire around it. And one in a stainless steel pot. The general consensus, IIRC, was that they were interesting; they just weren't bonsai.
