[IBC] new (?) bonsai books

Seems there a couple of new bonsai books on the shelves. I
looked both over today, but didn't buy -- yet. I'll add them to
the collection . . . someday.

1. Pop Bonsai - Kodansha pub. It's by a (ALERT! - SEXIST
COMMENT - ALERT!) cute Japanese chick, Lisa Tajima, who attended
college in the USA and obviously took our pop-culture marketing
tricks to heart and has mastered them very, very well. For an
idea, you can checkout www.popbonsai.com (though you will have to
have the Macromedia Flash add on installed to see anything (I
prohibit the showing of "Flash" products (for obvious security
reasons) so can't see much). Anyway, I'll probably end up
getting this one first since the trees are all on the tiny side,
which I prefer. ($19.xx) She appears to have an extensive
interview on "Bonsai Talk" but since I haven't time to go there,
I haven't seen it.

DALE: You might want to comment on the pots. ;-)

2. Ortho's "All About Bonsai," apparently a new addition to
Ortho's extensive "All About" series of garden-related books. It
is admittedly for beginners. It has a number of pictures of
mostly ho-hum bonsai, and a VERY basic text. It'll have to get a
lot better if it hopes to match ANY of the Sunset books (old or
new). ($14.xx). I'll wait until this one starts turning up on
the used book shelves -- and it will -- before I add
just-another-beginner book to my collection.

should have - Paul Bigelow Sears.

Jim, et. al.

Have you seen the new book by Jerry Meislik, "Ficus, the Exotic Bonsai"?
Knowing how you feel about tropical bonsai I would not be disappointed at your lack of interest.
However, if you want to look at a copy, see me at the convention.

Billy

Jim,
Already did on "BonsaiTalk" ( sortof)
A few from that list ordered a few pots.
Bart?
BTW, see the pot I made as a gift for Bart on pottery gallery "Mr. LW scoop
pot" . It was my "Dale-side" take and free version of the $100 pots!
BTW, a JOKE, and NOOOOOOO intention to produce them.
Gosh Bart....I'm thinking......one of a kind ala Warhol !!
:>)

I bought a copy for our club and last night I went through it, omiting the extensive material on growing ficus indoors as I don't. It is a worthwhile addition to a club's library, IMHO.

My copy arrived in today's mail (coincidentally). I may not "do"
tropicals (though I may have to try a fig now), but I'll do my
darndest to support one of "us" when he writes a bonsai book.

Struggling authors MUST be supported -- which is why I'm rough on
copywrite issues!

I'll be working on a short review for our website -- unless one
of you tropical types would like to do it
