[IBC] experience with crape myrtles? (was summer dig opportunity)
Billy's got it right. While they are not cast iron, they are very sturdy
and will handle a lot of abuse. Nice bark, nice flowers but fairly large unless you get one of the dwarf or ground cover varieties. Yours probably is the landscape variety so plan a medium to large specimen. It might be big enough to start working on next year but probably it will not be strong enough yet. Lots of sun next year (but semi-shade this year as Billy recommends). Plan on a multi-stem presentation or a lot of work because they sucker like crazy. They also bloom all summer and break back all over. Nice plant, have fun with it - jay Jay Beckenbach - Melrose, FL - Zone 8b/9a - jbecken@ufl.edu -----Original Message----- From: Billy M. Heavy pruning is OK. I would put them in the largest pots you have available, cut back the tops severely, keep the plants in semi shade for the remainder of the summer, be careful not to overwater. ************************************************** ****************************** ++++Sponsored, in part, by Chris Cochrane++++ ************************************************** ****************************** >>-->> The IBC HOME PAGE & FAQ: http://www.internetbonsaiclub.org/ <<--<< +++++ Questions?
