[IBC] BTO article on mixed media bonsai
Take a look at:
http://www.bonsaitodayonline.com/artofbonsaishow04.htm I don't think you have to be a subscriber to see it. This is another of those wonderful European displays of bonsai and painting. It is -- to my mind -- the absolute most successful yet. The trees -- great -- and the paintings -- mostly excellent mesh seamlessly. yet." Fantastic show, i notice they have selected mainly coniferous trees compared to deciduous, i think there were onnly 3 deciduous trees in that article, do the germans mainly work with coniferous species? -- Cheers Rowan ************************************************** ****************************** ++++Sponsored, in part, by John Quinn++++ ************************************************** ****************************** >>-->> The IBC HOME PAGE & FAQ: http://www.internetbonsaiclub.org/ <<--<< +++++ Questions? It has been interesting ever since Walter Pall and Udo combined their talents some time ago to see some gradual acceptance, BUT this is a real "world recognizable" display. I admire Udo's facility in producing so many different atmospheres with his color and brush strokes. They sure inspired me to give it a fling, but the size of his canvases are very large, hard to handle in a home display. So - I did a screen, double fold with three adjoined sections of a painting. That lets one put it up in a corner instead of undoing a room to find a large space, and is easy to make it a temporary display. Of course that led to costly framing, even if less canvas expense. Typical result of being frugal! On one we have an 8 foot by 7 foot painting and the other has a 6x7 foot painting, both done by a dear and very close friend of ours. Both have brilliant colors. If I had bigger trees, I've often thought these would be wonderful partners with bonsai. Because I thought Walter and Udo's first try used the "art" as backdrops for the trees (or occasionally the other way around). In this one, there was much more effort spent to match tree and painting in terms of color, design and mood. Fabulous displays.
I was also struck by the lighting and whether or not it was considered part of the composition. #1 and #4 I find the window/skylight shadows distracting/disturbing. However, #4 also shows great promise for incorporating light/shadow as part of the composition... the shadow of the tree is quite interesting. Consider #4 with the tree/light source a bit more to the left (viewer's perspective)... Tree with a neutral background and the tree shadow projected onto the rock (structural element). In other words... opportunity for more interaction between subjects. Wonderful collaboration. /jhd "Jim Lewis" <jklewis@NETTALLY.COM> wrote in message news:00c401c4578b$0a5db300$a8102cc7@pavilion... > Take a look at: > http://www.bonsaitodayonline.com/artofbonsaishow04.htm > > I don't think you have to be a subscriber to see it.
