Question About the bonsaiCAM

Q: WHAT is the bonsaiCAM?

The bonsaiCAM is a special kind of webcam we've developed at bonsaiTALK for demonstrating bonsai techniques.

Q: Do I need any special software to see the bonsaiCAM?

No. bonsaiCAM uses the same Chat interface as our text based chat. It's all based on Javascript, which comes with modern browsers, so it does not require you to download any software.

Q: How do I get to the bonsaiCAM?

When a bonsaiCHAT is announced on the forum, you can just click the CHAT link at the top of the page and log in the way you normally do for chats. You can also visit http://www.bonsaiCAM.com , which is the domain we've allocated to the bonsaiCAM.

Q: What will I see on bonsaiCAM?

You'll see a couple of windows at the top of the page. On the upper left is a real time photograph of the demonstration. It's updated frequently. On the upper right side is a special window that the demonstrator can use to load in a closeup or photo detail that will remain there until the next detail is loaded.

Past chats have shown repotting, because that's what we've been doing this spring.

Q: What if I have trouble connecting?

Try connecting early and set up a password and username. That way if you have problems you can resolve them before the If you have trouble using the Chat, and you're on AOL, you might want to try opening Internet Explorer in another window, or you can try using AOL but check the box labeled "safe mode." Safe mode just does more frequent refreshing.

Q: Can I ask questions during the bonsaiCAM?

Yes. If you want to ask the demonstrator a question you can type it into the box at the bottom of the page and press return. Be patient because bonsai demos are time consuming and it can be hard to drop tools and answer questions right away. If your question isn't addressed in real time, we'll get a post up with the answer. Don't expect detailed responses in real time, though.

Q: WHEN is the next bonsaiCAM?
We'll try to have one bonsaiCAM each week. The session will be announced on the forum with as much notice as possible. (We have a newborn here so it isn't as much advance notice as we know you'd all like)

Have fun,

Matt
