Yukky white critters on Robina
I have found these ugly critters on a feature tree Robina-Moptop in the yard. I had seen the ocaisional one of these around the yard even a bit on one of my bonsai's. It was easily solved by removing but as you can see from the pics this tree is now infested.
I am guessing it has something to do with aphids, white sticky and then feathery stuff, as the ants have done alot of aphid farming on this tree this year. I left them be on the tree as long as they stayed away from my bonsai wich kept me busy enough. The robina has been a very strong and healthy tree hence it is very full and hard to get to all the affected areas. I was thinking to treat with detergent and water as best I can for now and give a better treatment with something when the leaves drop. This will be the first time I have treated any insect infestation so any help will be great. Thanks

I got impatient and asked in chat
The advice is cottony cushiony scale or mealybugs Use a Systemic, something that will be absorbed by the plant..and then digested by the insects

An oil spray made just for this will work well and I also use the systemic for the long term. It will take a couple of weeks for the systemic to work.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find a systemic but I bought a white oil before I read this post.
How long before I should see some dead critters?

You couldn't find a systemic? You mean, at home? Or did you shop for it?
Regular applications of a systemic are an excellent way to keep all sorts of creepy crawlies off of your trees, and your yard trees. Anything applied to the soil at regular intervals would be a systemic, right? (at least, the systemic we use is mixed with water and poured over the soil) It is then absorbed by the roots and runs through the tree's or plant's system, bringing the insecticides right to the mouths of the nasties.
