yellowing needles on red pine

This is a red pine (my first) that I bought a few weeks ago. It was dug out of the ground in March. The nursery owner wasn't sure how the tree would do in my moderate climate since this species comes from a higher elevation. As the photos indicate, there are both young and old needles that are yellowing. Is this to be expected or should I be concerned? (The tips are a bit more yellow than the photos indicate.

It will be more telling to find out if new candles push over the next month or two. You want to be sure you aren't overwatering. The roots need to breathe to develop. What are you using for soil?

Regards,

Matt

The candles are growing well. The soil is the same it was grown in... almost pure river sand. The nursery owener suggested not changing it for at least a year. In the photo their is some turface on top to reduce sand erosion when watered.
