I got rid of a rather large population of white flies in my garden using Folimat (produced by Bayer). It also killed off all the aphids who had also moved in. It actually took a couple of days for the whiteflies to die off, but they all appear to be gone now. Aphids died straight away.
Alternatively, a friend of mine told me that a weak solution of vinegar will get rid of them. Cheers Dan |

Are the plants indoors - or in a greenhouse? In containment, the whitefly problem can really get out of hand. You can use sticky cards to capture adults.
Here is a picture - never used this specific barnd or vendor, but you get the idea: http://www.kalyx.com/store/proddeta...2560.0/file.htm

companion plants
You may be interested to know that the whiteflies were not eating my bonsai, but rather hanging around a mint plant that I had nearby. I haven't read anything anywhere to confirm that this is always the case, though one book I had said that mint makes a good companion plant for pest control. Similarily, garlic chives attract aphids so they don't attack your other plants when an infestation occurs (this one I have both read and tested... the chives will be black with aphids before they even look at other plants). Your chives don't look so good afterwards, but you can kill the bugs with pesticide and your bonsai won't be touched. Apparently thyme, sage and pennyroyal also make good companion plants for pest control.
