White Stuff On My Pine

I have had white spots on my pine some time now and I haven't concidered it harmfull, but then I read somewhere about that it can be somesort of pest? What can i do? The pine is now dormant. Photo:

You can see the little suckers on the trunk in the extreme lower left corner scrape one off and crush it. If it bleeds, we can kill it! Malathion mixed as instructions. Sprayer. Outdoors. Latex Gloves, Mask and Goggles. No children, pets, fish, ferrets nearby, please. Repeat application in 10 days - 2 weeks. Should be gone in a month.
