Verticillium wilt on maple?
Hello everyone, i recently bought this japanese maple and i noticed it has a reddish coloration at the base of its roots. Would you say this is normal or could it be caused by a pathogen, such as the dreaded verticillium wilt? The rest of the tree looks normal and i don't see any discoloration or streaks. Thank you.

Very unlikely, in my opinion. With V. wilt you will get drastic branch and trunk dieback before you see much of any visible trunk discoloration. The coloration you point out is probably just a variation of the trunk tissue that may have been buried previously.
