update: yellow leaves on fukien
I just wanted to update on the problem ive been having with my new Fukien tea. when i got it about two weeks ago through the mail, the leaves were a dark green and their were several flowers on the tree. i watered as directed, every 2-3 days and kept in direct sun for a few days. i then noticed several leaves were turning yellow very quickly and falling off. their were fungus gnats in the moist soil, and i assumed this was the problem, so i sprayed with a soapy water and let the soil dry between waterings to discrouage them from returning. i fiqured now that the tree would aclimatize to my house (i live in northern illinois), but it appears that all the leaves on the tree are turning a light lime green and eventually yellow. the leaves become a crusty brown and fall of, eventually, by themselves. im just confused on what the problem could be. i dont belive its watering problems, and am wonderng if maybe its a light, temperture, or humidity problem. please reply with any suggestions, im very desperate to keep my tree alive.

Just a newbie here, and this is just a wild guess. But it may have something to do with the change in environment. Where did you order the tree from? If it came from a place like Arizona or California...and then was shipped to Illinois....
This tree may be in shock from the sudden change in conditions. Maybee a pro can come on here and tell you for sure, like I said...Im just a newb |

This happened to my Fukien and I narrowed it down to the fact that I over fertilized it. When Spring came around and it was time to repot, that seemed to cure the problem. It grew again with very dark green leaves.
Another Fukien I had had an aphid investation and it's leaves turned yellow and started falling off. I got rid of the pests and the leaves once again turned green. Pests, over fertilization and too much water seem to be a few of the culprits of yellow leaves. Steve |
