tiny little flying things? im puzzled

hey guys, i have recently noticed around a couple of my bonsai, usually when i water them these tiny little fly like creatures, i have no clue what they are, i cant take a picture of them cos i cant catch them and there too small to see in a photo anyways, but they are about the size of a pin head, not much bigger and im not sure on there colour as such but they just look like miniture common house flys?

i have no idea if they are going to cause problems with my trees, but i moved my trees around a bit and havent seen them since yesterday.

will these things cause any harm, there isnt to many but they are there when disturbed they seem to come out of the soil so will this harm the tree?

Do you have moss on your soil? If so, is it dying? Or do you use an organic fertilizer that sits on the surface of the soil? Sounds like you have gnats or something similar. They'll congregate where there is rotting matter. No harm to the tree really, but not bugs you really want to have around. Get rid of anything that could be rotting on the soil surface, bury the fert under a layer of soil and they shouldn't be a problem.

no there isnt any moss or organic fert lying on the surface, i heard if i sank the pot into water with some detergant it will get rid of them? anyone heard of this?

Sounds like fungus gnats, usually occur with too wet soil, monitor your watering tighter, and try to let it dry down a bit more in between waterings. Thats a big assumption though, what is the soil like?

i water in the mornings and depending on weather a bit in the afternoon, usually let it dry out before i do tho. but it might be possible about the fungus gnats, are they harmful? or the larvae if they are laying? not that i think they are cos under the surface and deeper looks fine. i will try let them dry out a bit more, see if that helps
