Systemic Granules

Found some very small "eggs" underneath the leaves on my tea. Would anyone recommend systemic granules? I've used them on my 5 foot tall ficus before to take care of scale insects.

If this is a new tree, it might just be that long term fertilizer. Or it could be snail or slug eggs. They look the same as the fertilizer. A tea tree? So it should not have been outside for the winter. Hmm. How would eggs get into the soil in that case? Has it been kept in a greenhouse? Read the label on your systemic granules to see if that chemical will work on what you have...........which you do not know yet. You have to identify before you can treat. But.........sounds like slug eggs to me. I think I would just change the soil.

Moni,

Got the tree at Target, but noticed the "eggs" (actually they looked like dried egg sacs) after I initially potted it in a bonsai container out of the crappy Target pot. The soil was a new bag of bonsai soil. I haven't noticed any since my initial discovery and the plant is blooming now, so I think it's doing o.k. Gave it some fertilizer and Superthrive, I'll keep on watching it. . .

Thanks for the advice.

I had a snail infestation that took the life of my poor serissa. I wasn't able to catch it in time, but when I finally pulled the tree from the pot I found a large cluster of eggs hiding in the middle of the root ball. If this is a snail infestation, you may want to take a peek under the soil to see if it's all gone..

You know, now that I have reread Trav's post, I am struck by the comment that the eggs were under the leaves and not in the soil. I was assuming they were in the soil. If they were under the leaves they are the eggs of something. I would just rub them off (or.......I am famous for squishing anything that does not belong where it is found. Or if it is a slug, I get great satisfaction with cutting it in half with my pruners. Ah, heaven!)
