Spider (not mites?)

Ok, I saw something the other day on my indoor Fukien Tea (newly aquired - 2 weeks ago, my first). I swore I saw something red scurry under a leaf. I did see thin threads around, and I proceeded to spray Safer's Insecticidal Soap (1/2 strength).

Today, I noticed a large(ish) brownish spider. I know it was not a mite (too darn big!), and I was wondering, would it do any harm to keep him there? Would he eat mites and such?

Thanks!

Re: Spider (not mites?)

I think John Naka said, "No bonsai is complete without a spider" or something like that.

He said a lot of things!

It shouldn't be a big problem and could be beneficial unless it gets web happy and starts covering entire branches with webs. Usually they don't.

If it gets to be a problem, you can chase it off with a chopstick or a blast of water.

Regards,

Matt

Re: Spider (not mites?)

I always get happy to see a spider on my trees, because they can eat the animals I hate (mosquitoes)...
