Hi Denny, first, your dog WILL drink the beer. I had that problem at first. The cats seem to be able to avoid it! As for working on snails... I guess... aren't they just slugs with shells? (more or less). For the dog, you can just figure a way to keep her out... maybe a little chicken wire or fencing. If you are useing it by your trees and they are up high the dog should avoid it, I hope..... is she a party girl??

Thanks Jay, I included your photo and post in the FAQ on pests. I also added the outline of the FAQ to the FAQ button above, so if anyone clicks that they'll find the bonsai faq and the forum faq.

Regards,

Matt

Looks like the shoot out at the OK corral. Looks like you got some potato bugs, and some earwigs too.

Matt, Glad the my slug trap made the FAQ. I'm sure it will be of help to others. And, yes Al, for some reason the beer attracts all kinds of bugs.... mostly slugs... but bugs too.

My question is, do the little buggers die or just sleep it off? Next thought is, if you put some chicken wire over this trap to keep large critters out would a little snail bate increas its kill ratio?

I will have to experiment, one can with water, one with beer, and one with beer laced with snail bait. The can with water is your control,
I will have to get back on the kill ratio.
respectfully

Rips, the snail (slugs) Die! I usually leave the cans for a few days, they get a little... ripe! At that point I just dispose of them. But, the one for the picture was taken the next morning. The slugs do look fine.... I left them on the rock pictured for the afternoon. They were all still there. So I guess if the slugs are in the beer for a bit they Die. I do not know if 'bait' is better or necessary, but will await your findings!
