Sick bonsai
I've had this bonsai 1 year. It was healthy, but recently leaves started drying up and falling off. Help! Can anyone tell me what variety it is and offer any suggestions?

Is this a serissa?
Did it at any point earlier have some tiny white star-shaped flowers? When was it last repotted? Have you changed locations recently? Regards, Matt

Sick Bonsai
Matt - Thanks for your reply. I don't know the name of the plant. It was given to me as a gift. It had two small white flowers on it at that time, but none have appeared since. Regards - Rocketeer

Matt - Sorry, I forgot the 2nd ? No, no change in location since I got it, but the change at that time would have been quite severe in terms of altitude (S.L to 6500') But it did very well until recently.
I keep it in a bedroom by a sliding glass door where it gets southern sun exposure about 6 hours a day. I immerse it in water once a week. In the water, i alternate very light amounts of Gro-Rite and fish emulsion. I have never repotted it but have been considering it as a desperate measure. If you think that would be in order, would appreciate your recommendations as to medium. Jim

Well, I think that it was exactly where Matt wanted to go, I believe that repottin is not a desesperated move... It's necessary, since the rootball maybe is all bounded, and it's dying because of the lack of nutrients, what you need to do (if it's bounded) is to try (producing the least stress you can) to spread all the roots and prune them a little (in order to get them untangled, helping them to spread, and reducing the chance of getting them bounded soon) then place it in the pot again...
well, all this is only if the weather allows you to make it, I don't know much about that, since I live 15º over the equator well, that's what I think... ok? bye...

Muchas gracias, Alberto, y tengo mucho gusto en conocerle. Actually, on the advice of another person I corresponded with, I depotted it for a look at the roots and it didn't appear to be root bound. In fact, without cleaning the dirt away, I didn't see any new-looking white roots at all, which makes me think it's some kind of disease or rot. I guess in the absence of something better to do, I would go ahead and get rid of all the old potting, clean the roots, and then report it. What about something to disinfect it, and/or, vitamin B to help it root? Mejor esperos, Rocketeer

Está bien!!!
Well, if it's not bounded, and the soil mix is fine... don't know what can it be... If you keep doing the same as always well, don't have a clue then...

Hi Matt - After looking at a couple of books, I am pretty sure this is a serissa as you suspected. Given that, what would you recommend? - Rocketeer

YOU CAN NOT RUSH TIME
|
Hi, it sounds like Matt is correct in his thought, it sounds like a Serissa. Serissa are lovely little trees..... they even have a fan Club.... the IHSFC that stands for... I Hate Serissa Fan Club, Why? Well they are capable of dropping leaves on a dime. They do not like change... any change. I had three of these, now I have one! Do not over react to its problems. Water it as it goes dry... not by the calender! Leave it in one place, do not move it to the light and then back inside. I am a novice of but a few years experince, but I have had my Serrisa for a few years. They are very pretty in flower. I am sure a more knowledgeable member will give you more in depth info.

Thanks Jay - The leaves on mine measure 1/2'-3/4" long and are about 1/8"-3/16" at max width. One other person I've been in touch with thought the leaves looked too long in the picture to be a serissa. What do you think? Anyway, if it is, I will definitely enroll in the club. - Rocketeer
