sawfly larvae

I have a good bit of these crawlie bastards under my ficus...in the soil, and roots. Just wondering the safest, most effective way to kill the devils. I am a beginer so any help would be a blessing.

anyone I know its only a matter of time before they start eating the leaves. There is no telling how much root damage has already been done. It is a Home depot bought ficus, but has potential. It was the nicest one of the bunch and it looked healthy, still does! I just need tp get rid of these buggers before its to late.

No experiance with these tall one, can't remember what it says in Nick Lenz book either, but I'd say check on the Ortho, or Bayer sites and see what they have.

This page lists some pesticides that will work, both brand name and chemical name:

As per my reading, soap solutions may be poured straight onto the soil it's self in place of a regular watering..

Here's a decent writeup on effective non-pesticidal controls..

http://www.ns.ec.gc.ca/epb/factshee...s/non_pest.html

Hope it helps!

Ortho Systemic Inesect Killer - you can buy it at Home Depot. Dilute per the instructions and water right into the soil (spray the leaves too if want). Doesn't phase my ficus benjamina in the least and it kills just about everything.
