Satsuki: Black Spots on Leaves

Hi,
Following repotting into Kanuma, I have noticed that the lower branches of one of my satsuki azaleas have started getting blackish spots. The tree otherwise seems healthy and is situated in a well ventilated, outdoor position. Anyone have any idea what may be the cause of this please?

Thankyou for reading this post.
Best wishes.

Ok got the answer.
This is a phenomenon which occurs in transit from Japan to England. The tree becomes stressed as it is shipped in a container without light and for reasons best known to the loaders, the azaleas are placed at the top by the refridgeration units. The trees try to enter permanent shutdown whatever that might be. The problem took a while to show itself, so I figured it must have been something local that caused it.
Anyway the new growth is now coming up thick, fast and splendid.
Best regards.

snob, the trees sheding its winter leaves in time for flowering and new growth.you say youve just repotted, but from the foto the flowers buds are still on the tree.if youve done a repot before flowering you should remove these buds.repotting now takes a lot of energy from the tree and trying to make flowers and new roots could spell the death of your tree.

Good advice from tuckerg. Very nice quality pictures too, try to see if you could upload them to the site next time by clicking the "insert image" link on the tool bar in the "post reply" part (quick reply doesnt provide this option.) It takes up less space on the site. I hope the azalea holds strong, best of luck!

Thank you both so much for the replies. Yes I had since the picture was taken removed most of the flower buds. I hardly had cause to disturb the roots at all during the repot as a matter of fact as they were not in the "concrete block" state that I had expected. The new pot is fractionally larger than the one I had taken it out of. It continues to thrive and now resides with my other satsukis.
Best Wishes.

Hi,
Yes I bought it from a local bonsai nursery, which I've been using for about ten years now. I was just a little perturbed to see the darkening of the leaves for the first time ever. I had temporarily banished it to a far away corner of the garden.
Take care.
