Red spider mite
About a month ago I purchased a Ficus retusa, and after a week I gave it a trim, last week I discovered that some of the leaves had curled up and died I thought that it was trimming untill I looked closer, and found a tiny red spider which I dispatched and sprayed it with vegi bug spray. This did not work and the Ficus was looking a bit sick and I checked it out with a magnifying glass only to find more mites on the leaves, went out and brought the rite spray for the job, and it seems to have recovered I will spray it again in a couple of weeks to be sure.
regards RobyH. P.S. It pays to always check your purchases thoroughly before buying! ![]()

Mites are usually encouraged by warm weather and low humidity. Sounds like you're on your way to a cure.

I find that blasting the foliage weekly will really help with spider mite. They hate water. Just remember to blast acordingly. Adjust the volume of blast to the size of the tree. Don't blow the poor sucker right out of the pot!
I just had a bout of spider mite on a great little juniper. They seem to really like shimpaku and I have about 20 of them. They seem to really like the "best trees" and seem to stay away from the ones you couldn't care less about. I wonder how they know that? /|\ III Bonsai-al

water spraying
I just found 1 red spider a few minutes ago.
Sprayed my little 14 year old Ulmus Parvifolia (CHinese elm) with water ( even under the foilage ). I will keep my eye out daily for these little buggers and keep spraying them off. -Melissa |
