please help me identify white bugs running on top of ficus soil

Hi everyone

I'm a 1st time bonsai owner and I need help with bug identification. There are small white bugs running around quickly on the top of the soil of my ficus retusa. I have not been able to determine what those are, whether they are harmful, and what should be done about them. If you know anything about this, please help.

Someone with experience will come on and help you, but in the meantime, please go to UserCP and fill in your location and your information. And let us know if the tree is inside.

Oh, and if you google for "pest ficus" you will find a lot of information on what bugs they might be and how to treat them. Looks like a simple recipe of household products and water dilution sprayed on regularly until they are gone is the best bet. Generally it sounds like it isn't an emergency, they are just unsightly.

Try searching that, and see if any of the bugs sound right. Mild soapy treatments are probably best to start with. Sounds like ficus will sometimes lose their leaves if treated, and if that happens, slow down on the watering and wait for the tree to bud out again.

Can anyone else help here?
