Odd evidence of bugs?
Hi,
I'm new to these boards, so thanks in advance for any guidance you can give me. I just bought a plum bonsai (not sure if it's natal plum or chinese plum). The plant is healthy looking, and the soil is covered by soil and gravel/rocks. However, when I came home from work today, I noticed that somehow, there was a small pile of soil was on top of the gravel, and looked as if it were finely ground - almost like coffee grounds. There's a pretty good layer of gravel before you hit the soil, and because of the texture of the pile of soil, I feel like some kind of bug must have caused it while burrowing up from the soil or something. I wish I had taken a picture. Any advice you can offer me is greatly appreciated! I love my little tree and don't want anything bad to happen to it! |

Emmy--those piles you describe sound like earthworm "castings" (worm poop) nothing to worry about. In fact, they are collected and sold as fertilizer at most nurseries. If having worms in your pot bothers you, you can remove the worm/worms @ your next re-pot.
