Little Flies
Hi all! I have a slightly off-topic question. My mom keeps a bunch of tropical plants inside the house and recently we've had little flies flying around everywhere. They're very tiny. Anyway, I'm thinking it's coming from the trees somewhere. How do I identify/treat this problem? Anyone have ideas? I was thinking of just spraying the plants with a neem oil mixture but the plants are very big and I don't want to do that unless I know it would remedy the problem. Thanks for any help that might be offered.

Are they white flies or a dark brown/black?
Regards, Matt

Sounds like they are probably fruit flies or gnats. The larvae live in the soil. I don't think they represent any real threat but they are pretty annoying. Neem probably wouldn't hurt anything and it has some systemic properties.
Regards, Matt

"Tell her we have the same exact problem!...and I asked you to take your plants out...and THAT fixed our problem!" *L*
Those dang flies are terrible. No matter how many I kill they keep coming back. I'd like to know if the neem oil works any better than bug spray. |

Sounds like fungus gnats.
Get some type of Drosera AKA sundews (A carnivorous plant). The leaves have little drops of glue that will catch the gnats. Take care of the problem in a few weeks.
