Leafhoppers

Well, seems every time I move, there's a new pest to conquer. Read up on the jumping bastards, and found out lots of fun info. Seeing I have two dogs, and they are sensitive to fertilizing the lawn with Miracle-Gro, what can i use to rid myself of these suckers? Anybody ever have to wage war on the prehistoric leafhopper? Seems the Tridents and Elms are being hit the hardest. Browning leaf edges, spotty. True fun when you water, too, you get a few stupid ones that jump right up in your face as you go along. Charming bugs.

I used a pesticde that kills aphids, leaf hoppers.ect. on my hokkaido elm. It killed all the pests but many leaves fell off. After 2 weeks I started seeing new growth and now my elm has fully recovered and has hit a growth spurt.

I might suggest maybe diluting the pesticide a little to prevent too much trauma.

Good luck.
Go get em!!!

Some elms are sensitive to spraying, as are some maples. I've had issues with pyrethrin-based sprays and tridents...

Best thing to do isn't to dilute one that's already proven to be bad, but swithc to one that isn't. Try a sample spraying of a small section of the infested tree. See if the plant has issue with the spray, if it does, find another pesticide. A numer of them will do away with those leafhoppers.

Sorry for the long delay in response, new desk had to be put together...long story. Anyhow, I have 4 different kinds of maples alone, and have 40 trees along the side of the grass where they are. Is there anything I can use that is safe for all, or am I in some dreamland of pest control?
