Juniper-Hawthorn Rust
I have heard that shimpaku juniper is not susceptible to juniper-hawthorn rust and that therefore there is no reason not to grow juniper bonsai and hawthorn/apple family bonsai in the same collection. Can anyone confirm this?
How about California juniper -- is that susceptible? Thanks,

I haven't seen them on my trees, but I have cedars, junipers, hawthorn and apple in spitting distance of one another.
Here's a link that shows what to look out for. Looks like you can remove the juniper growths if you are vigilant, and stop the cycle. http://www.colostate.edu/Depts/Coop...seases/rust.htm Regards, Matt

It really wouldnt matter what you have in your collection since the tree could get the disease from a tree anywhere in your neighborhood.
