Insect pests on young trees
I've got 4 young trees which i recently was told to put into large pots outside(no place to put them in the ground or i would) so i did. The next day i come to find that some of the leaves on a couple of them had small holes in them. Presumably from insects. I have a dawn redwood, a zelkova, a weeping cherry, and a japanese black pine, plus i have a flowering serissa, and a japanese juniper well on the way. Any suggestions on how to prevent this? any pestisides to use or what not?
Thanks Andre |

Unless you actually SEE bugs and/or there are more than a couple of holes here or there(to the extent that the tree appears to be suffering), I would recommend you not worry about it too much. It's a fact of life that a tree will have a leaf or two that are eaten from time to time. Unless there is an infestation of harmful bugs, most insects just stop by grab a bite and move on, there's nothing to do about it, it's nature at work. If you do actually notice an infestation, indicated generally by systemic problems(all leaves being eaten, tree having trouble thriving, you SEE bugs crawling all over it, new growth coverd with tiny insects, etc..) then you have a problem that will need further measures.. Good luck.
