Immature seedling preventive pesticide
I plant some seeds last autumn in a grow bed.
Now some seeds have sprout. One of them got is leaves chewed in few days. I want to apply a preventive pesticide for the others that have or will sprout. I dont know what to use, any suggestions ? Thanks, Patrick |

Hi Patrick, A standard garden pesticide found in your local Home Depot/Lowes/Canadian Tire type store should do fine. I'm from the UK so don't know the exact product names available over there in the USA/Canada. Something that takes care of aphids, caterpillars, spider mites etc etc. The packaging should tell you what the product is suitable for. I would also recommend getting a fungicide, as seedlings are susceptible to damping off disease as well as other fungal infections - especially as you aren't using a sterile growing medium like perlite or vermiculite. Seedlings can appear healthy and grow well, then suddenly wilt and die for no apparent reason. Its always best to err on the side of caution - prevention is better than cure as they say .You could also put some very fine netting/mesh over the top of that seedbed to stop the bigger beasties like snails and even birds getting in there and taking a bite of your seedlings. All the best, Aaron |
