Help! Small Worms In My Bonsai Soil
I have found small under 10 cm long white worms in the soil of my serissa. Could they bee somekind of eelworms? I am growing my tree inside now but i took it inside a week ago... I have moved the infested serissa away from my other bonsai. Is there any way to get rid of them? Should i drown them in water?

Re: Help! Small Worms In My Bonsai Soil
MFP,
You can check if it could be identified as a Nematode (roundworm). If it is a Nematode, one of the first thing to do is transplant now the tree, in a new soil free from the worms. If you make an identification (Nematodes), you can use a specific anthelminthic substance to control this parasite, ask to a local farmer. Quote:

If the worms are really 10 cm long, they are unlikely to be nematodes.
Of the 15,000 or so nematode species, there are a few long ones, including a sperm whale parasite that can grow to 10 M long. But soil nematodes are typically microscopic or at least nowhere near the 10 cm listed.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but horticultural DE is the answer for soil borne pests. The only thing to be aware of, is that it takes out "all" soil borne life including beneficials. in a bonsai pot, this can be perfect, as few of us incorporate beneficial nematodes or earthworms in our bonsai pots. The url below describes what it is, and how it works. Can be purchased in most organic nurseries, and feed stores, also can be found online.
