Help!!!
I am at my wits end...My 20yr old Chinese Elm has been my pride and joy for years now but recently it's been plagued by some unknown force. I thought it was a bug of some kind so I checked the leaves and found tiny, almost invisible brown, what seemed to be dried up husks of somethin that has hatched. The leaves haven't been eaten but start to yellow and dry out as soon as they begin to grow, fortunately the tree is still trying to come back from losing nearly all of its leaves.
I have tried bug sprays of different types, immersing it in soapy water, repotting it and soaking the roots. There is nothing in the soil, as far as I can see. Can someone please help me save my tree, I'm out of ideas  |

Chinese Elm
Hi, dried husks sound like scale insects, they will leach the sap and seriously weaken the tree. However some insecticides I've found can effect Chinese Elm, systemic insecticide. Scale insects can be removed with Metholated spirit on a cotton bud, they are hard to erradicate but yearly persistence should help, good luck!
