green slime under soil surface
Over the winter a few of my trees have developed a green slime in the soil just below the surface. I'd like to know what this is, how to treat it, and how to prevent it in the future.
On hand, I have Captan by Bonide (which I use to prevent damping off for my cuttings) and Bordeaux Mix Fungicide by Hi-Yield (a copper product), so if either of those would work, that would be great. The photo is taken after I stirred up the top of the soil a bit. The soil is composed of chicken grit, fuller's earth (similar to turface), and a little pine bark.

Looks like algae to me.. Algae it's self shouldn't pose any risk to your trees, however it could be an indicator that there's too much water in your soil for extended periods of time.

Thanks. That seems likely, especially since I often use pond water.
