Ficus Leaves
I have been having a slight problem with my ficus. I have noticed that some leaves are getting little black holes and\or white dots outlining the leaf. I have tried orhto housplant and garden insect killer, but this doesn't seem to fix the problem. I thought that maybe i was watering it too much, so i bought a moisture meter, and i only water when it is on line 2. these leaves eventually shrivel and die, but there is new growth all around. other than the dots and small holes, the tree appears healthy. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Ficus Leaves
Those white spots around the leaves are actually meant to be there, their on all figs, but are sometimes more prominent than others. They are called hydathodes and they secrete excess water.
The little black holes I'm not too sure about though. |

Re: Ficus Leaves
My experience with moisture meters is that they do not. *They may work fine in potting soil, but not with the course mix most of us use for bonsai. *Instead, try inserting a chop stick into the pot and pull it out and check it before watering. *When the stick is slightly damp, its time to water. *I know the term "slightly damp" is not very helpful. Its too soon to water if the stick is noticably wet. *Generally, the right time is when the stick is damp but no free water is visable on the surface of the stick. *You'll get the hang of it after a few days. *Good luck.
