bugs

what do i do about bugs in my bonsai?
i've got these little black fly-like creatures. very small. they seem to enjoy the soil more than the tree itself, but i do notice them on it from time to time. they don't seem to be doing any visible damage but what do i know? i just want them gone.
i have a houseplant book that says to spray your plants with insecticide but i have no idea what kind, what is safe for plants, and what is safe for bonsais.
help!

They sound like soil gnats, which means too things.

1) You are keeping the tree indoors
2) You may be over watering

Some places to look:

Don't worry about it. It can be hard to guess what's been covered. The ***FAQ*** is a good source of info and the search is working pretty well now.

Regards,

Matt

stop bugging me

Bugs in plant pots?sounds like the FBI to me.
Don't be to hasty to nuke all living things with bug spray,a lot of bugs and patircularly spiders are benificial. They could be predator bugs guarding your plants from the vegetarians.
