Bug infested juniper

I received a juniper bonsai as a birthday present about three weeks ago. Lately I’ve noticed that my tree is infested with some kind of bugs. These bugs are very small, dark brown. They match very well with the bark so they are rather hard to spot. When killed they leave brownish-radish stain. I mostly see them crawling on the branches. They seem to be dying from the cold. I first noticed the problem in these past two-three very cold days because I saw a lot of dead bugs on the windowsill around the tree. I keep my juniper indoors because I live in the apartment building and have no means of keeping it outside. But I leave a tiny crack in the window, so the tree could be exposed to the colder air.

To me the tree seems healthy. The foliage is thick and green. Only very few older branches at the bottom of the tree are yellow or dry. I don’t know if this is normal or due to the bugs.

I’m new to bonsai and don’t know what to do about this. So far I’ve been bug hunting – looking for these bugs on branches and killing them by hand. Do I need some kind of pesticide to get rid of them? Somebody please help me and my tree!!!!!

Thumbs up Bugs!

I would only use pesticide as a last resort. I would just take a normal hose and spray the tree down then repot it. If that does'nt work then use pesticide. Good rule of thumb Weakest Pesticide to Strongest. This can be achived by just cutting dosees in 1/4,1/2,3/4, and Full dose.

Lote, probably red spider mite, but without a foto cant say.your main problem is that junipers are out door trees,so keeping it inside your asking for trouble.dry stale air and no breeze through the foilage wont help.
