I recently got and repotted a chinese elm and man is it a great looking tree. The problem is the development of dark brown spots on the leaves. These are not serpentine like a leaf miner is supposed to be but that is still what I am thinking. The spots are discrete (not connected) for the most part and range in size from pinhead to a few mm across. What sort of insecticide would be a good bet (few brands please as I am a newbie).

Sometimes the damage occurs in the bud and shows up in various ways as the leaf grows out.
You could try Safer's Insecticidal Soap or Neem Oil. Test both in one area of the tree first before soaking it. It won't help the already damaged leaves though. You might also look here: http://www.ip-sys.com/~bonsai/forum...tid=751#post751 Regards, Matt
