Bonsai Sick?

Help.

I have a plant that seems to be ill. I has some yellow hairy dust like particles growing on the bark. I don't know what it is. And I think some of the bark is soft. Did I water too much? And what is that thing growing on the bark? Can it be saved?

Re: Bonsai Sick?

If the tree is indoors and you have overwatered it, you might have any of probably thousands of different kinds of fungus growing on it.

If it's outdoors, it might just be some kind of bark lichen, which run the colors of the rainbow.

Some interesting lichens here:

If it has a generally slimy appearance (and if you are growing the tree indoors), you might have a slime mold

This would be indicative of overwatering and/or underlighting.

Regards,

Matt

Re: Bonsai Sick?

It's an indoor plant, at least I keep in indoor. I am not very hardy with plants. It's not slimy or anything. It's like if you were to saw some wood and the wood particules sticks to the plant. I hope the picture is clear. Does it mean that it can still be saved?
