Big Black Bugs on my Juniper
By Anonymous on Tuesday, February 20, 2001 - 07:12 pm:
Dr Bonsai, I just purchased a chinese Juniper, and there seems to be big , black bugs ( they look like ticks?) on the tree. I learned this after watering them. What are these? How do I get rid of them? They look different than the previous email (like gnats/mites), so should I still follow the same procedure) soak in water/ a drop of dishwash soap? |

Re: Big Black Bugs on my Juniper
Dear Anonymous,
It sounds like your Juniper has an infestation of aphids. Following the prior procedure (immersing the tree completely in a tub of several gallons of water with just a drop of dishwashing soap) should do no harm. You could also consider using a product like Safer insecticidal soap (cover the soil before spraying), and be sure to get the tree out into the sun and rain as soon as the danger of any hard freezes is over. Your juniper will be able to handle frost, rain and sunshine. Those nasty bugs will have a hard time of it. |
