Amur maple Bark Pest?
I just went out to water my amur maple this morning when i was shocked to see that some crazy bug or something has tore up the bark on my amur maple. it was so bad that the top 3/4 inches of the trunk had fallen clear off of the tree! Also, the foliage was effected too. I have a ficus and juniper right next to it, and the maple was the only one affected so far (i moved the other two away from the maple). I have attached some pictures. This all happened in one day. Yesterday it was 90 degrees and humid as H*ll. Does anyone know what could have done this to my tree?

Looks like squirrel damage. This is hard to prevent, especially with smaller trees and a large population of the tree rats
...See the numerous posts here on the dreaded squirrel scourge and how to kee them at bay... |
