Fish,
The pot you chose for your maple is as nice as it gets. Excellent choice.

Thanks Thomas.

The pot choice was one of those (very) rare fortuitous pot 'moments', when you know what you want and someone actually has it. It's a Klika/Kuratkova job.

Regards,

Fish.

Thomas,

nice trees.I notice you use procumbens quite a bit...Do the shimpakus not do well in your area or do you just prefer the procumbens(an underused tree in my opinion)

anyway,i'm glad to see someone doing such good work them

andy
Andy,
To answer your question, I have one shimpaku that I'll probably post once I get it repotted. I have been very fortunate to find a bonsai nursery that sells really good procumbens stock close to where I live. Most garden center type nurseries don't sell good procumbens or shimpaku stock, and that leaves bonsai nurseries the only place to get good stock. Shimpakus tend to be priced pretty expensive at those places, probably because most have been imported. I would prefer to work with shimpakus, but I am just as satisified with the procumbens for now. I wish their trunks had a little more taper to them. That's the only drawback with them. Other than that they are really fun to work with and style.

Mike, That double trunk cork maple is awesome. I would love to see some photo's of that tree in a few months after the leaves open. Please post back with some greem.

Fish, the clump style tree is very well done. I hate to ask, have you been doing the refining or did you grow this out yourself? Either way is is really nice.

Regards, Al

Al, Thanks. I've only had the tree for a couple of years, so no growing out for me. As for the refining you mentioned, I've let this tree get away from me last year. this year I will have to concentrate more.

Andy, I'm tempted to dream up some reason why the trunk is a few degrees from the upright, but to be perfectly honest it was last year's repotting oversight. I didn't even notice it until I took a picture. I'd like to correct that and also get the tree lower in the pot this year (there IS a good reason for that part), but the new buds are very, very small, so I think I'll leave it another year to be safe.

Regards,

Fish.

Hello Bonsaial1, nice tridents. If you don't mind me asking, what is the area of different coloured bark on this one? I wondered what it was when you posted the bare tree but never got around to asking.

Regards,

TB
