Critique Overview

Editor's Note - Al has added Shinji's critiques to the first post in each of the display threads. You can access the six threads from the main contest menu here:
[HR] http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/forumdi...p?s=&forumid=65 [HR]One thing I forgot to mention, Shinji knew that the trees in this display were not done by professional bonsai artists and critiqued as such.

Shinji was more interested in the way the trees had been presented rather than a hardline critique of "are these trees ready for Kokufu?" ...obviously not!

But there were things that could be changed that were not big things, but rather small things in comparison to the overall image displayed by the scenes. Take the Hackberry for instance, Shinji knew full well that there were many crossing branches, and that the outline could have been tidied by the removal of the stray twig sticking out in the picture, (hell, I could have went over there and pinched that off myself). Shinji was more interested in making sure that we understood the reason we display trees. It is not always to impress the judges or to win awards it is to strike emotion in the viewer. Sometimes small things will help make the scene more believable and a less confusing design will help the brain to decipher what it is seeing and and conjure up the memorys that will delight the senses.

I was amazed at how close the two, Walter and Shinji thought about bonsai in this way. While Shinji is still in the forefront with his heavily groomed trees, he still delights in the mental picture a simple tree can give. I find that delightfull.

I hope you enjoyed this thread, and I hope you are counting up your score. I lost track...nah! Stay tuned for the announcement of the winner on Monday.

Get ready for the Walter Pall critique... Get out your pistola's and crossbows, Walter holds nothing back..Ouch!

Special thanks to all those that participated and those that checked in and gave moral support..
