Water Elm Collecting
Here is a water elm, Planera aquatica, that was collected last year (2004). It was collected by one in our group and now he has decided that it too big for him and has traded it to me. What I liked about it is the nabari, which is usually lacking on these trees. The one problem with these trees is that they heal very slow and I mean slow. I have a tree that I collected in 2002 which I cut off a small branch and it isn't even close to healing over. So when collecting it is important to be sure to get trees that don't require large cuts, which is difficult. I will start wiring it this winter/spring and will be shopping for a nice pot. I think this has a lot of potential.
Thanks for looking, Frank |

FRank, this is another case of a great tree in 3-d coming out a little flat in 2d. This is a great tree, much nore conventionak than most of the beasties we normally see. Once styled I think that it will be reallt sweet and cofuse some folks in plant id land. John
