Species ID and thoughts

Any idea what this is? Thought at first it might be scrub oak, but has smooth bark, smaller leaves and remnants of blossoms (top of pic 530).

What are your thoughts on collecting or styling?

A closer look at the leaves would be helpful. Did you find red berries on the shrub? I'm thinking it might be toyon (Heteromeles arbutifolia). I've never seen a bonsai of it personally, but I googled it and found one or two.

Happy New Year

Thank you Barry.
Can't get much closer than that. Those leaves are half inch at best. Did a Google on Toyon, maybe, but don't think so. No berries, but in the second picture at the top center you can see what I was calling "remnants of blossoms".
