Soil For Collected Material

The subject pretty much explains it all... I would like to know what ingredients would make the best soil to plant recently collected material (decidious).

Unless the sheer volume of soil you need makes using your usual mix too costly to be practical, that's what I'd use.

Larger containers drain better than shallow ones, so the composition of the soil in a big grow box is not as critical as it would be in a shallow tray.

I harvested about 200 plants (mainly deciduous trees) from a growing area this past year About a third were maples and those went into largish nursery containers - 5 to 20 gallons.

I used a mix of fir bark, pumice and Turface MVP. In some of the really big containers, I added a little redwood compost, particularly to the upper third to help hold moisture.

Regards,

Matt
