Sawing Rocky Mountain Juniper

I collected a Rocky Mountain Juniper about three days ago. I estimate it was between 3 to 5 years old. it was in the way of an irragation trench that my parents were digging.

I attempted the collection because I'd love to collect a better juniper at some point, but have had little luck with their care. So instead of killing a 300 to 1000 year old masterpiece of nature, I've decided to try my luck with this seedling as a guinea pig.

collection was fairly easy. It had little tap root and fairly good root spread. It did not have lots of fine roots, but it did have some. I now have it potted in a two gallon pot, with a mixture of sand, pearlite and the soil I dug with the rootball. I'll post a couple pics in a couple days.

i noticed that the bark is extremely fragile and peels off very easily.....
