NJ pine barrens collecting site?

Does anyone know of any places where you can get a permit for collecting or collect legally in the south Jersey pine barrens area, Ie I know some state forrests allow "fire wood" collecting via a permit. I am very interested in some of the larch and pine species down there, but have no idea where to start.

If you don't want to give away a good spot publicly, please feel free to message me.

If you can get permission to cut fire wood collecting trees should be no problem. Be warned though, I understand that the Pine Barrens are a dangerous place and it is easy to get lost in them, so much so there are legends about the place. Make sure you get yourself a GPS device. From what I know once you get out of sight of the road every direction looks just like every other direction.

I wouldn't get too excited about collecting on the Pine Barrens. It is a quirky protected reserve site:

There may be some application process to go about getting a permit, but given its reserve status and its sensitivity, I would be surprised if a permit was easy to get...Can anyone from the swamps of Jersey chime in?

I have a very close friend that gets to, "on occasion" collect in the barrens. He over time has developed a relationship with the individuals that are in charge of certain districts of the pines. I will say that when he has gone he has never come back with more than one at a time. So it would seem if you are patient and develop a understanding with the power that be in your area it just might be possible.

A side note: I do know that he only collects what is with in 25 maybe 50 feet of access roads. Those trees that are subject to vehicle damage or would be considered a fire threat from a passing vehicle.

Jersey Devil is the legend:

Of course, the other "legend" is Bruce Springsteen who was "stuck somewhere in the swamps of Jersey" and sprung from a cage on Highway 9 ...
