I was forved to collect a beech that was going to be trashed. The only problem is that I just collected it in the fall and not the spring so hopefully it will do ok in the greenhouse for the winter. I just wanted to know should I use a wound sealant on the trunk chop or just let it heal on its own?

Beech grow fairly slowly and dieback is a concern. Also you've just collected it and moisture loss is a consideration. Why not seal it?

Beech are fairly forgiving of out of season collection in my experience. Obviously there are limits, therefore I would seal the chop. As Matt says it will reduce moisture loss, which can only be a good thing.
