HUGE Ivy Helix Hedera Yamadori

Hello everyone,

Just thought I'd share this find. It is a Helix Hedera, I believe, collected from the parking lot at a place I work at occasionally. It was very easy to remove, I am not too worried about it having trouble rooting, these things seem to be indestructible, and there are a few roots already at the bottom above the cut. It looks to be quite old maybe 40-50 years old?

I have looked all over for info on these, but I didn't find that many large specimens. Are they uncommon? There are 3 or 4 more stumps left in the parking island still.

Any tips or suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Great Stump! I've never seen ivy that big. Do you know if dead wood will last on ivy?

There was some rot in the main strip of deadwood that I removed with a scraper. Once I got through the rot, the rest of the deadwood was very solid, and seems like it could last quite a while. I have not found much info on these as bonsai, and none this big, so other than my observations I would just be guessing. Also, sawing through this stump was not easy, more like sawing through a hardwood tree than a vine. Thanks for the comment!
