Honeysuckle - Collected
As many of you know I have been collecting Honeysuckle with Craig Cowing recently. Craig has obtained permission from a retired farmer to harvest trees from his farm. There are many varieties of trees on this huge farm, but, Honeysuckle are the big find. Over the last few weeks we have removed nearly 20 trees. I have 5 including one from last fall. Most of mine are medium to medium large in size for this farm. Craig has a few more than me, some are real monsters. (I know this isn't 20 trees, but last Saturday 3 other Bonsai Artists joined in).
Today I helped Craig remove a beautiful Honeysuckle. The tree, which looked like a huge bush to small tree was approx 12 feet tall. The base was perhaps 18 inches wide. And it took less than an hour to remove it. Craig who is more experienced at honeysuckle than I, and Nick Lenz (via his book) say that you need a minimal amount of roots with this tree. Will try and post some pictures tomorrow if I can get them, yup it going to rain again... through the weekend... oh well... water good!
If no pictures are possible I will take them next week... I like the possibility with these trees!
Jay
